SIOR's Top 100 Office Transactions of 2014

By R. Scott Martin posted 04-09-2015 10:18

As the chairman of the SIOR Office Working Group, I wanted to share some exciting Spring World Conference highlights that will take place in Scottsdale later this month. First, I want to step back and define the purpose of the Office Working Group.

I joined SIOR in 1999, and it has been rocket fuel to my career in providing:

  • Greater knowledge of the industry
  • Negotiating tools
  • High level relationships with dealmakers
  • Keen insight into trends
  • An invaluable network of commercial real estate leaders

Often I'll get asked: is SIOR weighted towards the industrial broker? My reply is simple - “all of the industrial users in the world have office needs for sales, service and headquarters.” The SIOR network has provided opportunities on a referral basis to generate commissions in excess of $1 million. I know that SIOR is proven on the industrial level and is the reason why we formed the Office Working Group to enhance the value benefits and services of SIOR office members.

The Working Group has taken on the endeavor to:

  • Bring high-quality content to the World Conferences
  • Provide branding tools to increase the office membership within SIOR
  • Create greater market awareness for our SIOR members
  • Facilitate high level networking on all levels with REIT and institutional office owners to fuel ideas, leads and business for SIOR office

Our main goal is to bring “O” back into SIOR.

We are pleased to offer a robust office program at the Spring World Conference:

  •  April 23 from 9:30am to 11:00am - Office Building Transactions Breakout Session: we have an incredible panel providing insight on tips, tactics, and procedures in negotiating with institutional owners and developers. Our major office sponsor is USAA and for those of you in attendance of the conference please reach out to Dirk Mosis with USAA and thank him.
  • April 23 at 7:00pm – Office Broker Dinner sponsored by Hines: this fantastic networking dinner is limited to 60 office brokers so sign up today. Click here to register.

  •  April 24 at 10:00pm – USAA Late Night Office Party - join us after the Panattoni Party for a special afterglow party sponsored by USAA. Head over to the Kirkland grounds for cocktails, desserts, and entertainment.

  • April 25 from 8:45am to 10:15am – Office space Utilization Breakout Session: Andrew Cheney, SIOR and Mark Adams with the Smith Group will discuss trends, technologies and furniture systems that are changing our industry.

When you check in at the conference, you'll note the Top 100 SIOR Office Deals in 2014 flyer in your registration packet. The top three transactions will be recognized and written up in national and international real estate publications.  The Top 100 piece is attached to my post – please download today.

During the Spring World Conference the Working Group will be meeting to discuss programs at the Fall World Conference in Chicago. We are looking at a field trip into the Chicago skyline, another great office panel, and an exclusive networking dinner.

We are open to all suggestions for future topics and concerns. Please share your, ideas or thoughts with anyone of our committee members, below.  If you have interest in shaping the future of SIOR on an office level please give me a call personally. What can you give back to SIOR?
