Our volunteer roles cater to various levels of commitment, from beginners looking to get involved to those ready to embrace greater leadership responsibilities.

TYPES OF VOLUNTEER POSITIONS

The ideal life cycle of a volunteer starts with small tasks and virtual participation to working all the way up to committee and leadership positions. We encourage volunteerism at all levels and it's easy to get involved.

Below are examples of SIOR volunteer opportunities available at different points throughout the year:

MEMBER GROUP STEERING COMMITTEES & STANDING COMMITTEES

Member Group Steering Committees and Standing Committees develop content for their respective constituencies. As subject-matter experts, these volunteers have the ability to put forth recommendations for organizational consideration. This is a fantastic opportunity to give back to the organization and help the CRE community grow.

REGIONAL DIRECTORS

Regional Directors (2-year term) serve as liaisons between SIOR HQ and chapter leadership, reporting directly to the SIOR Global Vice President. They also serve as non-voting members of the Chapter Leadership Council, working with chapters in their respective regions to facilitate discussion, best practices, and recruitment.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The Board of Directors drive strategic initiatives that shape the future of the organization. In addition to budgeting, oversight and establishing policy, the Board review motions and recommendations from Member Groups, Standing Committees, and the Chapter Leadership Council. Board members serve as ambassadors for the SIOR brand and assist with the recruitment of new members.

The15-member Board of Directors meets in-person three times a year, as well as virtually between conferences.

    • Board Members At-Large serve for a 2-year term. Three seats are open each year.
    • The Treasurer serves for a 2-year term. Applications are available in alternate years.
    • The Vice President serves a 1-year term and requires a 4-year commitment as the Vice President then serves successive 1-year terms as President-Elect, President, and Immediate Past President. Travel to chapter and industry events is required.

ONGOING OPPORTUNITIES

Taking part in an ongoing opportunity is the perfect way to begin your volunteer journey. They don’t require a significant time commitment yet still offer you the ability to network and further your professional development.

CHAPTER LEADERSHIP

Becoming a volunteer leader in your local SIOR chapter is more than a professional development opportunity — it’s a chance to elevate your industry expertise and build a stronger network. Chapter Presidents and Vice Presidents are members of the Chapter Leadership Council and collaborate with peers from around the world.

  • June – September | Applications for Member Group Steering Committees + Standing Committees open via MySIOR
  • October | Assignments available for Member Group Steering Committees + Standing Committees
