Did you serve as your Chapter's President between April 2016 and April 2020 or do you currently serve as your Chapter's President? Are you looking for ways to help direct the future of SIOR while staying in touch with the chapter volunteer leaders? Do you enjoy communicating strategy, developing best practices, and fostering the camaraderie and quality that is the hallmark of SIOR? 

SIOR Global is seeking an experienced volunteer leader to step up as the incoming Speaker-Elect in October 2020. This is a two-year (2-year) term and the Speaker-Elect will automatically transition into the Speaker in Oct. 2022. 

Who can apply?
Any current or former chapter president who has served as chapter president within the four year period between April 2016 and April 2020. Upon assuming office, the Speaker-Elect may not hold another office in the Chapter Leadership Council concurrently (e.g. Chapter President or Regional Director).

Candidates must attend both the Chapter Leadership Council meeting on October 16, 2019, in Portland, Ore., at the Fall World Conference as well as be available for interview by the Nominating Committee at the 2020 April Conference in Indian Wells in order to be considered.

Expectations of the CLC Speaker-Elect

The Speaker-Elect is the second officer and a non-voting member of the CLC.

  • Serve a two-year term beginning October 2020
  • Succeed CLC Speaker in October 2020 (see Speaker expectations below)
  • Promote SIOR’s strategic and operational goals, particularly as related to chapters
  • Support Speaker and staff in program development and speaker recruitment for all CLC meetings and Leadership Conference
  • Participate in all CLC conference calls and attend the CLC meetings at the annual Spring & Fall World Conferences and the Leadership Conference at his/her own expense
  • Serve as CLC Speaker in Speaker’s absence
  • Serve as a non-voting member on the SIOR Membership Standards & Admissions Committee
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned by the Council

 Expectations of the CLC Speaker

 The Speaker is the presiding officer and a non-voting member of the CLC.

  • Serve a two-year term beginning October 2020
  • Serve as a voting member on the SIOR Board of Directors
  • Fulfill all the responsibilities and obligations as an SIOR Board member
  • Promote SIOR’s strategic and operational goals, particularly as related to chapters
  • Support staff in program development and speaker recruitment for all CLC meetings and Leadership Conference
  • Participate in all Board and CLC meetings and conference calls, both ad hoc and at the annual Spring & Fall World Conferences and Leadership Conference.

Selection Process

  1. Complete the application and submit along with any additional optional documentation prior to Oct. 2, 2019. Nominations from the floor will be accepted provided they meet the eligibility criteria, present in front of the CLC, and answer the same questions as other nominees.
  2. Completed Applications will be sent to the Chapter Leadership Council to review; all nominees will be presented during the business meeting at the Leadership Conference in Portland on Oct. 16.
  3. The two (2) finalists to be presented to Nominating Committee will be determined during a regular quorum meeting of the CLC by a majority vote of all sitting members of the CLC in attendance at the meeting. For this purpose alone, each sitting Chapter President will have one (1) vote and each sitting Chapter Vice President will have one (1) vote..
  4. Nominees will be given three (3) minutes to present their candidacy to the CLC. The floor will then be open to questions for the nominee. After each nominee has presented and had the opportunity to speak, the CLC will vote on the two (2) candidates for recommendation to the Nominating Committee.
  5. The Nominating Committee will interview the two (2) recommendations at the 2020 Spring World Conference and select a final candidate for election by the membership at the 2020 Spring World Conference.
